Buying tickets to see your favorite show on Broadway or your favorite comedian doesn’t need to be an overwhelming process. However, a lot of people make it out to be a lot tougher than it really is. If you’re having some concerns about purchasing tickets, don’t worry. We are here to help you.
We recommend creating accounts at a few different ticket sites in order to find the best deal. This way, you have easy access to checking the sites and you can set email alerts so that when certain tickets become available, you will be one of the first to know.
With that said, we have found the best luck with SeatGeek over the last several months. They tend to have the best combination of the best seats, lowest prices, and the widest range of different tickets and availability. Depending on what you’re looking for, you might find a better site, but this is where we recommend starting out.
Once you create an account with the ticket site of your choice, the next step is to start searching. Most ticket sites have very refined search features, and you should definitely take advantage of these. For example, you can search for the show’s name, the city where you want to see it, and even stipulate a range of dates. So if you want to see Jim Gaffigan’s act in Chicago between May 1st and May 15th, just enter those search terms. If he will be there, you will find tickets. If not, there will not be any available.
So, let’s say that you’ve decided you want to go see Hamilton in New York City in August. Type in Hamilton under the artist’s name and put NYC in as your location, being sure to put in the appropriate date range. You will likely find hundreds of tickets available. What now?
You need to have a decent idea of what tickets you are looking for. Just going for the cheapest tickets is not necessarily the best idea—especially because what looks like the cheapest set will not always be the cheapest. You can search through where seats are located, especially with a bigger venue like this. You can also look at fees and add on prices to ensure that you are really getting the best deal on your tickets. For example, going with e-delivery is usually a lot cheaper than having the tickets physically mailed to you. Little tricks like this ensure that you are getting great seats and you are getting a good deal on them. Search around at a few different sites so you can get a good feel for what is available and how much you should realistically pay.
If you don’t find what you’re looking for right away, don’t worry. Tickets are listed many times per day on the major sites and we recommend checking at least a couple times per day until you find what you’re looking for. If you’re concerned about price (and who isn’t!), then you will want to check a few different sites. Pay attention to your timing, too. We have discussed the best time to buy tickets in other places on this site. But the bottom line is, if you don’t find what you’re looking for right away, odds are it will turn up. Keep at it, and you’ll get the tickets that you want.
It’s really that simple. Getting tickets to a comedy show or to the theater doesn’t need to be overly complicated or stressful. Just follow these steps and you will almost certainly find what you are looking for.
